Road Traffic Scheme
An area of law which could be of crucial importance in respect
of a member.s ability to retain employment and obtain future employment, not to mention the cost and payment of fines, and
in more serious cases deprivation of liberty with consequent loss
of job, is criminal law.

The areas covered will be:-

. Police Investigation & Persons Rights

. District Sheriff & High Court proceedings

. Breach of Peace

. Road Traffic Offences

. Assaults

. Custodial Matters

There is also a 24 hour legal advice line available for criminal matters and this can be accessed on 0141 950 1441 (to be used outwith office hours). This will be most advantageous to the Member or if
a member of their family are being interviewed or held by the Police
in custody.

In addition to free initial advice by telephone or interview (where practicable), legal aid will be applied for where applicable and even
if legal aid is refused the Criminal Law Solicitor will charge
in accordance with the Legal Aid rates.

Criminal employment related matters should of course be referred to the Northern Regional Secretary.
